Make it to retirement.
A look at how we all became crackpots.
Cancer hits everyone in America. Its impact is felt by all of us, be it the pleasant distance felt by those who don't face it, or be it the fear that comes from being told your time is limited.
The story resulted from me losing a boat load of money, 75 grand or so, and being told about a cousin that was hit by something no rational man would see coming.
The story is not sad. It is an inverted Princess Bride, mostly because William Goldman is so brilliant that he must be emulated. However, this time the narrator does not tell of a story that happened a long time ago, but rather his life story to a table of kids--one ape, one hipster, one princess. To the kids the story appears to take place both in the past and in the future, for that is how fast technology moves. Have a modicum of faith and know it will make sense when you read it, but just move on to the character profiles for now.
Retirement follows the adventures of the narrator, DC (Diet Coke). The man started out his career as the Prince of Identity Thieves. His two college roommates settle a long standing bet, which was the better movie trilogy of their childhoods. During this bet, they development a wholenew world beyond everyone's imaginations with their organization, Omega. Omega is much like the next Google. It makes more money in less time, updates everything, changes the game of life, and on and on.
While the story itself is very light-hearted, the purpose behind the book is not. Good books mean something to people, great things. I want to donate every dime from the sales to a good cancer research foundation.*
I will be publishing the book in very small batches. Building one small step at a time. Finding people that want to be involved, from a printer, to a book store, to people that want to get a story full of wonder and adventure.
These people know that they have control over their life. That reality is what you make it. It is not something being defined by the media, or guilt, or any other authority. That you are the authority, and
don't have to put up with living in a world that makes you feel small, hopeless and doomed.
Coming for Christmas, 2008.
